St. Andrew's Children's Clinic
Nogales Arizona

The mission of St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic in Nogales, Arizona is to provide medical treatment for disabled children of indigent parents in Mexico. We provide medical services to 200-300 seriously ill or disabled children in a church not designed for medical care. This is done quickly by a veritable host of efficient volunteers with love and good humor.

The Children's Clinic is located in Nogales Arizona near the International border. You cannot live in the border country without soon realizing that the border is in many ways an illusion. Our clinic is a bridge across that barrier. The children, families, volunteers and medical staff all share the same land, the same water, the same air, and in many ways the same destiny. Our economies are linked, our families are bound by a common history and our welfare depends on each other. Thus, the Clinic is not a charity though it is infused by charitable instincts; it is not a welfare program, though concern for the welfare of the children is strong; it is a community taking care of its own, its future – its children. It is also a unique program that, in cutting across national, ethnic, linguistic and class boundaries, reaffirms that it is the simple impulses of the human heart that are the strongest foundation for human progress and healing.

Every child is given expert and compassionate care while being fed, looked after and treated with respect. The success of St. Andrew's Clinic is easy to see in the shining eyes and broad smiles of both the children and their parents. What is most amazing to us is that this all takes place in the shadow of a seven-foot high, barbed wire topped and National Guard patrolled fence.
